The population reached its peak in the early to mid-20th century. Since the mid-20th century, the population has been declining , particularly after the two conflicts, the World War II and the Greek Civil War as people left the village for a better life in other parts of Greece and in other parts of the world (mainly North America). The pace of the population's decline rarely slowed in the late-20th century. According to the 1981 and 1991 census, the village's population showed an upward short-lived trend, returning to the constant declining level (the majority of the population are mainly over 50 years old).
The village's morphology consists of farmlands, mainly groves and pastures with fruits, vegetables and other crops covering the eastern and northern areas. Forests in the nearby area cover over 60 to 70% of the area. The nearby mountains to the west of the village are mainly covered with grassland and the Lykaio mountain is located northwest of the village. The lignite mining area which has been used to produce electricity for its nearby power plant is located in the northeastern part of the village and has been mined since the 1970s
